Fathers Day 2017: Give Something Different This Fathers Day
The Brotique men’s store opened it’s doors to Edinburgh in November 2013. The Saint Stephen Street location perfectly compliments the men’s store, an area surrounded by fashionable independent boutiques, men’s barber shops and Edinburgh’s finest cocktail saloons. Stockbridge is fast becoming the shopping destination for “off the beaten track” men’s shopping, trending as #thegentlemensquarter. Founder Richard Murphy set up the store in an astonishing 24 days, from idea conception to store execution. Murphy explains ”With our love of products and our natural ability to curate, market and sell, we created The Brotique as an outlet for our own interests and provided a hub for people who appreciate and desire authentic, high quality, innovative, original and definitive products.”
The Brotique has gained strong traction in the market place very quickly, “Products such as Bellroy wallets, Marshall headphones, Gerber adventure gear, Lamy and Caran d’Ache pens, Leuchtturm 1917 notebooks, Edition Scotland Scarves, amongst others have helped us achieve this success and we are currently expanding our range and developing our departments in store.” Said Richard
More than just a retailer, The Brotique is working hard to establish itself as the place to go for care products and goods. “We started with beards as I have had beards in various forms since my late teens and we know how hard it is to keep a beard looking good.”
“We have the largest and best selection of beard and moustache products in our store in the UK and we aim to test everything ourselves to ensure we can select the best products and provide accurate advice for our customers.”
The Brotique’s unique core offering, The ManHamper™, takes the teams ability to source and curate one step further. Murphy said, “Our ManHamper service is the first gift hamper service designed specifically with a man in mind,” Murphy stated, “our excellent gift service brings together curated products from around the world and packages them beautifully in a black hamper ready for any special occasion,” he continued, “we have a growing and changing selection in store, or our customers can consult with us to create the perfect custom hamper from our wide selection of products.” The ManHamper has gone down a treat for groomsmen at weddings, birthdays, graduations and with Father’s Day early this month, the guys have a great selection in store to give something different this year.

New store causing a real stir in Edinburgh
It is fair to say that since The Brotique opened in St Stephens Street in Edinburgh at the end of November 2013 it has become a real hit.
Set-up by the guys from design agency Tiger Forest to bring a curated selection of accessories, stationery, leather goods and books together for the modern gentleman it really has filled a gap in the market. In the few months since the doors opened customers have ranged from men themselves to mothers, aunties, girlfriends, wives and friends looking to buy a unique gift for that special men in their life.
So what makes The Brotique so different?
The founder Richard Murphy said: “Last year we looked around Edinburgh and other cities while we were on our travels and really began to feel that there were no specialist stores for men’s gifts and accessories, places that offer that little bit of quality and something different to the shop just down the street.
“In Edinburgh for example the town center is very busy and many of the stores offer the same bland items and we know from speaking to people that they are always looking for something different.
“Our aim is to offer people a chance to find that unique gift in comfortable surroundings away from the hustle and bustle, while our staff are always on hand to help.”
The Brotique team, headed up of Richard (Buyer) now includes Richy (Brand experience), Chris (Design and Web), Steph (Style), Felicity (Jewellery) Julie (Retail) and Laura (coffee). They are constantly on the look out for new items to stock in the store to keep things fresh. A lot of the items are handmade or vintage and have not been produced en masse, so it really is easy to unearth a unique gift. This can take the form of a scarf or a pen or many items in between.
Popular items are the made up hampers for men called ManHampers which include numerous items including a Lamy safari pen, a multi-tool, socks and a scarf. Custom made hampers can also be put together for you on the spot.
The Brotique team are also branching out into weddings as Richard explained: “We all know that bridesmaids and those who have helped on the big day usually get lovely gifts from the bride to thank them and we believe it has sometimes been hard for a groom to find the right gifts to give to his best man and such like.
“We are delighted to help grooms and others select the right kind of gift from The Brotique and love helping someone find the right item for them.”
It is going to be a big 2014 for The Brotique, so head in and check it out for yourself.
