Privacy policy

The Brotique (thebrotique.co.uk) is run by Tiger Forest Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (number SC442121) at Suite 2, Ground Floor, Orchard Brae House, 30 Queensferry Road, Edinburgh EH4 2HS. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Tiger Forest Ltd is the controller of the personal information described here. You can reach us at theguys@thebrotique.co.uk.

• Analytics. Only if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 records how pages are used: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived. We use this to see what readers find useful. Our legal basis is your consent. Google Signals and advertising features are switched off, and the data is not used to identify you personally.
• Hosting logs. Our host, Vercel, automatically keeps standard server logs, including your IP address, the page requested and the time. These are used to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix faults.
• Newsletter sign-up. If you enter your email address in the footer form, we use it to send you the newsletter. We rely on your consent, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
• Email. If you write to us, we keep your message and address so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation.
• Outbound links. Many links on the site take you to retailers. Some go through a Brotique link (beginning /go/) that sends you on to the retailer, so we can count clicks. Once you reach a retailer, their own privacy policy applies.

On your first visit we ask whether you are happy for us to use Google Analytics cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, lasting up to two years). They help us count visits and understand how readers move around. Nothing loads unless you choose Accept, and the site works the same if you choose Reject.

We remember your answer in one strictly necessary cookie, brotique_consent, for six months. You can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page; if you withdraw consent we delete the analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies.

We do not sell your information. We share it only with the services that help us run the site:

• Google, for analytics.
• Vercel, for hosting.
• Our email newsletter provider, for sending the newsletter to those who have signed up.

These providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we expect them to use recognised safeguards for international transfers. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

The Brotique used to sell products directly through a Shopify shop. Tiger Forest Ltd still holds the order and customer records from that time, such as names, addresses and order details, as an archive for accounting and tax purposes. We keep them only for as long as the law requires, and we do not use them for marketing unless you have separately agreed.

• Analytics data: for the retention period set in our analytics account, which we keep as short as is practical.
• Newsletter address: until you unsubscribe.
• Emails to us: for as long as needed to deal with your message, and then for a reasonable period afterwards.
• Old shop records: for the period required for accounting and tax.

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:

• tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy;
• correct anything that is wrong;
• delete your information, where we have no good reason to keep it;
• restrict or stop how we use it, including withdrawing consent to the newsletter at any time.
