How to choose a beard brush and comb
A brush and a comb do different jobs. Get the right ones and your oil works better, your beard sits flatter and the tangles disappear.

A brush and a comb are not the same tool, and most men only need to spend a little to get good ones. Here is what actually matters.
The brush: go boar bristle
A natural boar bristle brush is the one to own. The stiff bristles spread your oil evenly from root to tip, train the hair to lie down, and exfoliate the skin underneath. Use it on a slightly damp, already-oiled beard so you are not dragging through tangles. It is the best few pounds you will spend on your beard.
The comb: saw-cut, not moulded
Cheap moulded combs have a tiny seam along each tooth that snags and snaps hairs. A saw-cut comb has smooth, hand-finished teeth that glide through. Cellulose acetate or wood both work. A folding pocket comb is the one you will actually carry.
When to use which
Comb to detangle a longer beard and to style. Brush to finish, spread oil and lie everything down. Short beards mostly just need the brush. Longer beards want both.
