Earlier this week the news dropped that after 25 years, Showtime are reviving 90's cult phenomenon Twin Peaks. Set for a limited 9 episode run to air in 2016, with every episode directed by David Lynch, the internet has since imploded since the news dropped with some rather cryptic tweets and of course that teaser trailer.
After the initial excitement wore off (and it took a few days certainly) but fans seem to be cautiously divided about the return of their beloved show. TV show revivals aren't exactly a new thing, but there's usually a reason they've come to an end. With Yahoo picking up Community - bringing them closer to the self prophesied #sixseasonsandamovie - as well as the ill fated return of Arrested Development on Netflix. will Twin Peaks go the same way?
With Mark Frost and David Lynch writing the episodes and Lynch in the director's chair it seems unlikely. Twin Peaks has such a rich mythology, and while the second season certainly had it's problems, any new stories exploring the Black Lodge, Dale Cooper and the residents of Twin Peaks is welcome and is sure to at the very least intrigue old fans as well as attract new ones.
Until then expect wild speculation, throwbacks, where are they nows and round ups of the best sweaters from the series (no really.) Either way we can't wait to revisit Twin Peaks with some damn good coffee and cherry pie.
